Mid-Week Tid Bits, 1-31-13

January 31, 2013 2 comments

The quote for the week:  You can lead a man to Congress, but you can’t make him think.
Milton Berle

We’re looking to have another fine evening at The Woodbine Opry this Saturday night.  John LeMaster will be our special guest, and it is always good having John with us.

This week’s trivia question:  This artist has charted songs for over 200 individual weeks in both country and pop charts.  His career started in the mid-50’s with a rockabilly group, and later with a jazz group.  Prior to forming his own group he was with The New Christy Minstrels.  Who is he?

Last week’s answer:  Jack Greene

The attendance, which is normal for this time of year, has been outstanding; literally we have folks out standing in the hall.  I know many come early and save seats for friends that are going to sit with them, and to a point I understand this.  However, when I arrive on Saturday evenings and see the same “saved” seats week after week, then that’s a problem.  I personally think the auditorium is opened too early and this leads to the seat saving.  I find it embarrassing to have first-time visitors sitting in the hall when there are so many empty seats that are being “saved”.  If, by 6:45, whoever you are saving the seats for haven’t arrived, they should be given up to those who are looking for seating.  Let’s be cooperative and keep “seat saving” to a minimum during evenings of packed house crowds.

I hope to see you at The Woodbine Opry for another good time.

Opry On!

The quote for the week:  Don’t talk about yourself; it will be done when you leave.
Wilson Mizner

Last week I reported that Shonna Faegan would be with us and I had my wires crossed; she will be with us this Saturday night.  We are all looking forward to having her sing here at The Woodbine Opry.
This week’s trivia question:  This country artist was the drummer in The Texas Troubadour Band, Ernest Tubb’s band, before striking out on his own.  He has to his credits, nine #1 hits.  He has received awards including Single Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Male Vocalist Of The Year, and Song Of The Year.  Who is he?

Last week’s answer:  George Hamilton IV

I hope to see you at The Woodbine Opry this Saturday night.

The quote for the week:  I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford. Then I want to move in with them.
Phyllis Diller

We have a full line-up for you this week at The Woodbine Opry.  Joe Muench will be back with us on drums, and T.K. Hilton will also be with us.  T.K. was to be with us last week, but a family matter came up and he was unable to attend.  I know you all will be glad to have him back.  Also, a young lady from Nashville, Tn., Shonna Feagans, will be with us to sing.  She is originally out of Hortense, Ga., and I understand that she is a very talented young lady.  I’m sure you will not want to miss her singing.

This week’s trivia question:  This country artist has many “firsts” in his biography.  He was the first pop artist to switch to country music, he was the first country artist to appear in Russia, and he was the first country singer to have his own TV series on British TV.  Who is he?

The answer to last week’s question:  Mel Street

I hope to see you all at The Woodbine Opry this Saturday night.

Opry On!
