Dear Family and Friends, I would like to respond to each and everyone of you for your prayers, visits, cards, flowers and support during the unexpected passing of my Beloved Husband Bob Staats. I apologize for not being able to personally talk with each and everyone of you and keep you updated, other than on Facebook. Bob’s illness on May 4th happened in the blink of any eye, with no warning and what happened in the next 14 days is a blur. His stay in the hospital was hour to hour MRI’s, ultrasounds, x-rays, blood work, IV’s, it was so fast; neither of us knew what as going on and don’t believe the doctors did either. He was so strong and never complained; I will never understand. I am still in shock and denial of My Bob not walking back through the door of our home, ever again or being by my side. I know we are not to question God or lose faith and now I have to believe that it was God’s Plan to take him at the time he did. Bob loved you all and he really loved to see our Opry Friends enjoying The Woodbine Opry/Saturday Night. Pleasing you all made him happy. He enjoyed playing his guitars and singing and had his next song list on the desk for his last 5th Sunday Sing at Pine Ridge Baptist Church. The song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was one he chose and sang there. He managed his time and fit everything in, he studied God’s Word and had a deep faith in God and “His Plan” for us all. Last year at his 50th Class Reunion (Pratt, Kansas Class of 66), he sang “I Wonder If You Think of Me”. I recorded both of those, as well as the Opry videos. My Bob was a happy energetic man; I think he was born happy.😊 He never got tired of doing for anyone he thought needed help. He told me one day if he ever left us, just say, “He saddled up and left for his next gig” and recently, that he’d like “Somewhere over the Rainbow” played.
I also know there is a time for grieving and then a time for moving forward; in time I will reach that point.
I will get through this, not only for me, but for Bob also, because I believe God has a Plan for us all.
He would want us all to be as happy as he was, although I don’t know if that is possible, but I’m going to try.
Bob’s love and zest for life was a Joy and a Blessing.
    I will always love you❣️Bob Staats.💌
With all my love, Annette Staats

Thank you so much for the updates on Bob’s condition. So many people want to know on a daily basis his condition. You and Bob are in our daily prayers. If there is any way we can be of help, don’t hesitate in letting Camay and I know. We love you,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Bob’s condition came on suddenly and everything happened so fast that I only had time to post on Facebook from my smartphone. Hope you continue to enjoy The Woodbine Opry.

  7. May 12, 2017 at 7:06 am

Bob Staats is fighting the battle of his life with more procedures today to determine the cause of a heart attack, TIA’s, blood clots in his lungs, and more life-threatening issues brought on by a blood disorder involving thickening and clotting. Please pray for Bob’s strength to endure this fight, his doctors the wisdom to figure this out and provide him with proper treatment, his family, extended family and host of so many friends. Bob always closed his directing of The Woodbine Opry/Saturday Night program with these words, “Tomorrow’s Sunday, see you in church”! We believe in praying and need all to join in with us in prayers and faith that God will bring him through this battle he is fighting.

Prayers from me are on the way. Clotting and blockages are no fun at all. I was very lucky they could fix mine before it got any worse. Tell Bob we love him and are hoping and praying for a fix to the problem. Please let me know if I can help in any way. He’s like family to me. Love y’all.

Robert said the cardiologist on duty did not see any evidence of a heart attack and his personal doctor will be in later today to check on him. I know many of you were with us last Saturday evening when Mr. McCullers experienced this and we wanted to pass along this information. They seem to think he will be released either later this afternoon or tomorrow. We will keep you posted on this.

This is the latest update on John Claxton for today. He is improving and eating much better. At the same time, the doses of chemo and radiation togeather causes a lot of side symptons and lowers the bodies immune system capabilities. He cannot receive visitors as of now because of possible infections being borne from others and he is receiving ivs several times a week. Our Friend Mary Gaye Keaton called last night as she was being admitted to Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. Bob and I called her this morning; she is in Room 4117.
In this conversation with Mary, she told Bob she was going to yank the needles out as she thought they were trying to restore the Blood Bank storage and then she was heading to search for coffee after she throws the nurse she doesn’t like out the window of the 4th floor that she is on.
She has to wait for doctors and test results; that could be a couple days.
Keep Mary in your prayers and cards may be mailed to her at: 2722 Aldersgate Rd., Jacksonville, Fl. 32226-2102

Birthdays and Anniversaries: We recognized Barbara and Jimmy Wilkerson’s 50th anniversary. Barbara said Jimmy didn’t attend with her but he knew she loved ole’ country music and spending Saturday evenings at The Opry with her friends.
A couple further in the back told us they just celebrated their 61st anniversary-we couldn’t get their name but they’ve been with us before; their picture is on the blog-page.
A guest on the other side near the back raised his hand that it was his birthday, no name.
Happy Happy Anniversaries and Birthdays to all of you!

  153. February 21, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Some of our Opry Friends have asked about others who have not been with us for awhile. One of them was big Tommy King. Actually, Tommy called Bob earlier this week and told him he was dealing with big health issues; knee problems and pain getting around.
Another Opry Friend Joann Smith also from Brunswick talked with me a couple of days ago; she has had health issues as well. She and big Tommy did mention they planned to attend Dee Nugent’s services today at 1:00 pm in St. Mary’s. They both hope to come back by
the Opry and stay and visit for awhile. It will be good to see them again.

Another couple Joe and Ginn Schatko have also been out for about a month with health issues and Joe just got home from the hospital following surgery. Ginn said he is recovering well. We miss them all.

We get lots of questions; but can only post what we know.
Help us out if you have information to share here on this site about any of our Opry Friends. OPRY FRIENDS ON!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Barbara Henry’s sister, Marilyn Carr, passed away last week. Barb is one of the ladies that helps out in the snack room. If you would like to send a card her address is Barbara C. Henry, 10507 Tulsa Road, Jacksonville, Fl. 32218. A memorial service is to be held but I do not have that information as yet.

    • February 3, 2015 at 5:37 pm

I remember the years that Marilyn spent with us every Sat. night with Barb, Mary, Norva and Cleo (The Wild Five). She really enjoyed the programs and clapped all the way through them. Her sister Barb Henry and the rest of the Wild Five took such loving care of her when her health failed.
Sympathies go out to Barb and family.

Happy Birthday to our Opry Friend Ed Land who celebrated his 87th birthday with us last night!

  220. April 12, 2014 at 10:49 am

If you prefer to socialize and chat with your Opry Friends or dance in the additional room opened last week for our Opry Guests, a closed circuit tv is tuned in there to see and hear the Opry Program. Of course, you will miss the “uproar” that goes on in the auditorium, but you do have that option; it is MUCH quieter in there. With the crowds we’ve been having, we now have room to accommodate all!

I know why the snow birds come south for winter. All this Ice, Snow, and Cold Wind. I can say one thing it should be a crime to live in this weather in the winter months. It is a beautiful place to visit in the Spring, Summer and Fall. I know I do love my Florida weather.

  236. November 23, 2013 at 7:41 am

It is that time of year that our snow bird friends rejoin us here at the Opry. Burt and Linda Darling have been back with us for several weeks now and two weeks ago Ernest and Donna Twigg were with us. I’ve spotted one or two more that have been with us, but I do not know their names. I appreciate all of our seasonal guests and it’s great having them come back to us year after year.

    Opry On!

  237. October 26, 2013 at 7:47 am

Hi Becky: So good to keep in touch with you and Don. I do believe you are speaking from a woman’s view of Texas. When Bob took me to Kansas, WELL, I got through it but all I have to say about that is I saw miles and miles of plains, oil wells, tumbleweeds and the winds, oh good grief. And the little house on the prairie that Bob said could be a good “fixer-upper” for us LATER; that did it! I AM NOT going to go back there with him ever again! When I think of Dorothy clicking her heels wanting so badly to get back to Kansas, OH MY and GOOD GRIEF AGAIN. I am never going back.

Hello Woodbine friends. Don and I are still in Texas. We are doing fine. There is nothing here except dirt, cactus, and mesquite bushes. There is no place to dance around here. We did go to one about 50 miles from here about one month ago. All they did was the two step. We went to San Antonio in August for the weekend. We really like it there but the work is here so I guest we will be here for a while. It is cooling off a little bit. It was over 100 degrees for 4 months. We really miss all of you.Take care.

    • October 8, 2013 at 6:36 pm

It was so good to see and visit with Debbie and George.  They are a very sweet couple.    I know they love to dance, and George knows he needs to keep it to the slow ones, but he does love to do the fast ones.  But we want George and Debbie around for a long time, so we  hope he just does the slow ones.  Love you George an Debbie,  Barb

Several of our Woodbine family has asked about Oma Phillips. She called me this morning and said she keeps getting worse, but she is a tough little cookie and she is keeping two of her grown children hopping – she has a doorbell type ringer that she calls them when she wants something and her daughter says she is running them ragged. I told her I’d be down ther e to visit today or tomorrow. Thanks for asking about her. Keep her in your prayers, please. Love Young

  313. September 11, 2012 at 7:02 pm

    Mr. Staats,

I’m writing from San Angelo, TX. Just wanted to let you know that a friend of mine from Brunswick sent me a link to your wonderful music. I have never had the pleasure of attending myself and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy watching the videos of your Saturday nite music at the Woodbine Opry. I find myself looking forward to each week when I can tune in. I can’t help but notice that no matter where any body is from, they are all welcomed with open arms. One thing that has not gone unnoticed is the fact that it’s all good clean fun! I don’t see alcohol or cigarettes ruining the atmosphere. It’s difficult to find that kind of entertainment these days. I could just sit here & listen & watch all day if I didn’t have other things to do & you had enuff videos to last that long. The music, singing, and voices are all beautiful & brings to mind days of yesteryear when things were much simpler.

Thank you again for your wonderful entertainment & the vocals I hear.

What a great evening, as usual, seeing my Woodbine Friends this Saturday and meeting the visitors from Indonesia. It seems that we have quite a few visitors from other countries and they always seem to enjoy The Opry and the welcome they receive. It was also good to see John LeMaster back with the guys on stage.

I just wanted to say to all my good friend at the Woodbine opry that last Wednesday,July 25th was my dads birthday may he R.I.P. andSaturday morning at 10:00am we released his ashes according to his wishes at the same place my Moms ashes were released. I am so pleased that he gave so many of you good folks joy and happiness through his personality and his music and that he left me the legacy of being able to carry on where he left off. I’ll never be able to fill his shoe’s but I sure enjoy trying to do so.

I am sorry to report that Miss Minnie passed away early this morning. She dearly loved the music and comradery here at The Woodbine Opry where she gained many friends. Moving to Brunswick in 2000 from Texas, The Opry afforded her the opportunity to once again dance and listen to the music that she loved. Our sypmathies go out to her son, Danny Farmer and Dottie, and to her daughter,Jane McDonald. The arrangements are pending.

BOOZER Robert Bob G. Boozer Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, brother and friend, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, two months shy of his 90th birthday, in Jacksonville, FL and was reunited in heaven with his wife Dee, for whom he lived his life. Born in Eupora, MS in 1922, Bob was a member of the greatest generation, an American patriot who proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. A noble and honorable man, Bob always lead by example. He instilled morality, perseverance, integrity and a strong work ethic in his daughters. Prior to the war Bob earned his Eagle Scout in 1938. He enlisted in the Army at age 18 and flew B 17s in campaigns over Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. After the war he worked several jobs while putting himself through law school, where he earned his degree in 1947. Bob was a proud member of the Scottish Right of Freemasonry, Shriners, VFW, American Legion and DAV. Bob built a successful outdoor advertising business in Miami. At 44, he and Dee retired to the mountains of Franklin, NC where they built their dream home on the side of a mountain and spent the next 40 years in happiness. They traveled the U.S. (by car or camper) extensively, visiting their many friends all over the country. When Dee died in 2005 Bob moved to Jacksonville, FL to live with his daughter and son-in-law. Preceding Bob in death is his beloved wife, Denolis Bunch Boozer. Bob and Dee were born a month apart, shared their first-grade desk and were childhood sweethearts. Bob famously boasted when they married they had only two dollars to their names. They lived for each other and their great love reached out and touched everyone they befriended. Bob is further preceded in death by his mother and father, George W. and Mary E. Boozer and two brothers, George and James. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Morris (Charlie), Barbara Novak (Jeff); granddaughter, Robin Novak; grandson, Jason Morris; great grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, Elliot and Jasper; sisters, Mary Eudy Jackson and Jean Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is also preceded by his canine co-pilot, Sandy, a bloodhound he loved dearly, who always rode to town with him in his little red Porsche. Bob, like Dee, will never really leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. We thank God for the precious time we shared and the lives they molded and changed forever. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Friday, June 22nd, at 6:00PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, Bob would prefer that you help others, as he did throughout his life, by making a donation in his memory to the Salvation Army, 328 N. Ocean Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
