The quote for the week:  Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get.
Mark Twain

I hope that you are faring this little cold snap; staying in and staying warm is one way to do it.  Hey, by this weekend it will be back to “normal” for us here and good weather for another Saturday night Opry.  Lonnie Portwood will be our special guest and I encourage you to be there to hear some mighty fine pickin’.

This week’s trivia question:  Considered to be perhaps the finest female composer in country music history, this lady has to her credit such songs as “Cherokee Maiden”, “You Don’t Know Me”, “Distant Drums”, “Dream Baby”, and many, many more.  In 1944 her recording of “When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again” became a top ten hit.  Who is she?

Last week’s answer:  The Statler Brothers

I hope to see you Saturday night at The Woodbine Opry.

Mid-Week Tid Bits, 1-2-14

The quote for the week:  Worry is the interest paid by those who borrow trouble.
George Washington

Happy New Year to you all!  It was a good year for us in 2013 here at The Opry.  Many new faces joined us in our weekly attendance and we had about 22,000 views to the website, viewed by those in 28 countries.  We don’t take a head count at each program, but I believe it is safe to say that we had a record number of folks attend the Saturday night opry this past year.  I thank you all for your support of us here, and I know that 2014 will be even a better year for us.

We’ll have the whole group with us this Saturday as Joe Muench and Brian Rowland will be back on stage with us.  I hope that you can get out and be with us for this program.

This week’s trivia question:  This minor-league baseball player’s career ended with a leg injury and he became a radio announcer.  His singing career took off and when his first #1 song on the country charts also reached #11 on the pop charts, he traded in his cowboy hat for a sports coat and slacks, sometimes even tuxedos.  Who is he?

Last week’s answer:  Pee Wee King

I hope to see you Saturday night at The Woodbine Opry.

It was a good year for the Saturday night program here at The Opry; we had 24 entertainers during the year and we gave away through the half-n-half $12,704.00.  This money set a new record for the half-n-half and I want to thank you all for purchasing the tickets, thus ensuring that the Opry will go on.
